Trip Itinerary

We'll walk the streets of La Cité together, along a proposed path, stopping on a number of occasions for your guide to discuss themes and present the history of your location. At each stop, you'll be encouraged to photograph the location. Times below are for guidance only. Whilst we may deviate from the route, the tour will allow you to visit key parts of the Citadel.

10:00 AM - Notre Dame de la Santé (chapel)
At the start. We’ll begin the tour, prompt, from the Chapelle Notre Dame de la Santé, a very small chapel, to be found at the far end of the Post Vieux – the old bridge. From here we begin our slow climb upwards. Those attending are advised to arrive ten minutes before the start.
Approx 10:15 AM - The Cobbled Streets
Photography of Life. Our journey continues up the cobbled streets of the Bastide, and takes in the sights and sounds of a hugely popular historic site. Moving away to the backstreets, there are opportunities to explore the hidden delights.
Approx 10:30 AM - Looking Outside
Photography of Landscape. Having breathed in a little of la Cité, we take an opportunity to look over the edges, and across to Carcassonne’s town on one side, and the surrounding countryside on the other.
Approx 10:45 AM - Basilique Saint-Nazaire
Photography of Light and Dark. For thousands of years la Cité has been a religious site. The Basilique Saint-Nazaire is now the centre, and the surrounding area allows us to discover the abstract side of this unique location.
Approx 11:00 AM - Break
A short comfort break, with an opportunity to purchase water and light snacks.
APPROX 11:30 AM - Porte De L'Aude
Photography of Perspective. With the main Citadel now behind us, and the town of Carcassonne in front, we notice, more than ever, the shapes and angles that make up this beautiful location.
APPROX 11:45 AM - Les Lices and Les Tours
Photography of Distance. As we walk around the perimeter of the Citadel for the first time, we notice the vastness of space, the towers all around, and the architectural marvel -perfect to engage in some final few photographs.
APPROX 12:00 AM - Porte Narbonnaise
The close of our tour. We finish the tour where we began, at the main entrance. This is the perfect place to continue your afternoon wander back in the Citadel, or to wader down into La Bastide and the New Town.
